Nature Lovers!
Here's your opportunity to enjoy an old-fashioned, low-cost
camping adventure that will strengthen your personal
fundamentals and group dynamics and save your ministry
resources. It's also a unique way to renew your marvel at
God's great creation and to appreciate His glory! Limited to
small groups of 16 or less, Murphys Christian Camp offers
its "Mark
Twain Roughin' It Adventure Camp." Your
accommodations include our two secluded, recently
upgraded, eight-bunk rustic cabins, our outdoor kitchen

comforts. (Chemical toilets are available nearby.)
You
will do your own cooking
in our covered outdoor kitchen, which features cold
running water, stainless-steel sink, basic cooking pots
and utensils, a propane campstove/grill and four picnic
tables. Our campfire ring includes a small stage and
amphitheater-style bleacher seating. Marshmallow /wiener-roasting sticks are provided. (Campfires must be
supervised by Murphys Camp staff and may not be available
during extreme forest-fire danger season.)
Murphys
Christian Camp's recreational facilities, including our
archery range, miniature golf course, softball field,
basketball court, horses, hiking trails, 49er gold mine,
etc., may be used on a space-available basis. You may
schedule use of these facilities, with groups using our
main camp area having priority. If there are no other
groups on site, you will have exclusive run of the camp.
And
the price is right! The cost for our "Roughin' It
Adventure Camp" is only $10 per
person per night (ages 5-12) and $12 per person per night
(ages 13-up). Showers in our main lodge
are available for an extra $3 per person per day when not
in use by campers with reservations in our main lodge.

Murphys
Christian Camp is located in beautiful
Calaveras County, known throughout the
world as the setting for the Celebrated
Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, a
short story written in the mid 1800s by
Mark Twain, who is now a local icon.
Twain lived in a rustic cabin (still
standing) only a few miles from Murphys
Camp.

Mark Twain (1835-1910),
whose real name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens, is
best known today as a humorist and as the author
of numerous novels, as well as short stories,
sketches, and various works of journalism. Raised
in Hannibal, Missouri, on the Mississippi River,
Twain's experience was that of a man on the cusp
of several worlds, including the edge of the
slavery South, and the starting point of the West.
His accounts of Western adventures, as
represented by Roughing It (1891) and "The
Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County"
(1865/1875), were extremely popular. The success
of Clemens' writing career (as Mark Twain) is
sustained mainly because of his ability to relate
history in a comical fashion. Mark Twain's Roughing
It is a lighthearted and fluffy work set
mostly in the Wild West, as Clemens' journeys
took him to California in search for adventure
and story inspiration.
