River Rafting Adventures from Murphys Camp

Your stay at Murphys Christian Camp can be enhanced with an exciting, memory-making river rafting trip! Through our arrangements with two whitewater rafting outfitters, we can host your river adventures, whether you seek an easy float trip or a more challenging whitewater expedition. Murphys Camp staff includes professionally trained river guides who will accompany you on your trip.

Stanislaus River

One-day, April-October

Rapids: Class I-II (Easy)

For as low as $21 per guest, you can beat the heat and opt for an exciting, yet relaxing low-risk float trip down the scenic Stanislaus River at Knights Ferry, which is located about an hour from Murphys Camp. Our outfitter is River Journey. Murphys Camp staffers conduct the trip, and you will be paddling the raft under their guidance. The tour is popular with youth groups and families. The scenery along this stretch is beautiful and includes such sights as "Two Bluffs" volcanic area, "Lovers Leap" and plenty of rolling countryside and a wide variety of bird life and wildlife. Small rapids all along the way add to the fun. Minimum age: 6 years. Our outfitter supplies all necessary safety equipment. Murphys Camp provides a delicious picnic lunch.

What to bring: Sunscreen; strap-on sandals, water shoes or sneakers (no flip-flops); hat or cap with brim or visor, security strap for glasses or sunglasses, swimsuit (shorts optional), T-shirt (recommended).

South Fork of the American River

One-Day, April-October

Class III+ (Intermediate)

California's most popular run — a river that thunders all season long through the legendary gold country. Our outfitter for this trip is the world-famous Outdoor Adventure River Specialists (O.A.R.S.), owned by friend of Murphys Camp, George Wendt.

Your adventure begins with an overnight stay at Murphys Camp. After breakfast, we'll pack a lunch to take along. The trip to the American River takes about two hours to O.A.R.S.' River Bend Camp near Coloma. We spend the rest of the day rollicking through The Lower Gorge, with exciting Class III rapids galore — Satan's Cesspool, Hospital Bar, and Recovery Room, to name a few. We return to Murphys Camp for the night. The cost varies depending on specific time and trip, but may be in the $90-100 range. (Longer one-day or two-day rafting trips, the latter including tent camping overnight along the river, can also be arranged. Meals provided. Call for more information.)
